Shelia E 4Canalside was the venue for one of Buffalo’s most memorable performances on July 23. The celebration included a ceremony where Mayor Byron Brown declared July 23rd as Sheila E. Day, and the talented musician returned the gratitude by delivering an electrifying performance to the crowd of thousands.

A Summer of Opportunities
Canalside’s commitment to providing a diverse experience includes offering opportunities to minority and women business owners. Here’s a brief glimpse of two current Canalside vendors:

Code Blu Juice Bar: “My exposure to the health and fitness community and expanding my visibility was a major factor in being a Canalside vendor. This summer exceeded my expectations! Expanding the Security Safety Net
Canalside is excited to welcome Trace Assets Protection Service as a new security firm. The firm will provide safety and security for special events at Canalside. Ryan Coate, General Manager for Canalside said, “Trace security has been a great partner to ensure safety at our box office, for concert security and our food and beverage venture.

Events To Note – At Canalside there’s something for everyone! Here are a few events that are happening this month and beyond:

• Love Seafood and Ships?: Canalside will host the 2nd Annual Buffalo Maritime Festival September 19-21, 2014. Enjoy a full weekend of family-friendly fun!

• Happy Hour at Canalside: Break up the long work week with a beautiful venue, refreshing wine and delicious food at the new Clinton’s Dish beer/wine garden. Events include Barefoot Wine Wednesdays, HARBORCenter Happy Hours on Thursdays and Fridays at Canalside. Great things are happening at Canalside! The summer concerts are off to a great start. But Canalside is so much more than concerts. Canalside is quickly becoming Buffalo’s most popular destination for year-round activities, events and business opportunities. Here’s a quick snapshot of the recent and upcoming activities at Canalside:

It includes a tab dedicated to providing business owners with important announcements, work opportunities and information to help you get involved. Coming Soon: Local Chef Bobby Anderson, who appeared on Hell’s Kitchen, brings exceptional health and wellness to the Western New York region through quality food, nutrition and innovation. This summer, Chef Bobby is bringing “The 20/20 with F Bites” to Canalside as a culinary experience for youth that will include culinary training and advanced cooking courses. Canalside patrons can enjoy fitness challenges, cooking demonstrations, live entertainment, and free food samples. The event will run every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from July 1 to August 26.

Open for Business to All: On June 24, Global Spectrum hosted an M/WBE and small business update meeting at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Attendees gained insight into current and upcoming opportunities, and learned about the necessary steps to do business at Buffalo’s waterfront destination.

New Opportunities: Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation has announced two new construction opportunities for projects related to the Canalside Grain Elevator Illumination. Details for each of these opportunities are posted on the NYS Contract Reporter website, http://www.nyscr.org, under the following titles:
– Connecting Terminal Grain Elevator Illumination: General Construction Due Date: July 10, 2014

JUNE UPDATES

The Canalside Team is Growing. Shaping Canalside presents many possibilities for resourceful entrepreneurs. Several local companies have been hired, including Classic Construction, Iroquois Bar, Apex, Watts Engineering and Singleton Construction.

New Additions. On June 2nd, Clinton’s Dish, Canalside’s on-site eatery began serving breakfast. The new menu includes caffeinated beverages from Golden Cup Coffee Co.

Lauren-Byrd-Headshot163x100 Lauren M. Byrd, founder of the Mercedes-Benz of Buffalo Fashion Week, joins the Global Spectrum team as senior corporate sales manager.

Canalside is Hiring. There are still full- and part-time jobs available at Canalside. View employment opportunities at http://tinyurl.com/CanalsideJobs. Canalside is currently looking for volunteers to work at its information tent and assist with game rentals. Volunteers can earn VIP concert tickets, preferred parking and free lunch. Have You Heard About the New Buffalo? `Thomas P. Dee, president of Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp., Canalside’s parent, recently spoke at the Black Capital Network’s “Have You Heard About the New Buffalo” event. Dee shared insights into the development of Canalside and spoke with M/WBE business owners and professionals about their projects.
